Manual Lymph Drainage is a gentle technique of a slow, rhythmic stretching of the skin to stimulate the lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes within the lymphatic system. The movement of the skin accelerates the re-absorption of tissue fluid into the lymphatic channels, increasing the effectiveness of excess lymph fluid filtered through the lymph nodes. This technique reroutes the lymphatic fluid away from the congested area to healthy lymphatic vessels resulting in decrease swelling in the affected limb.

Post-surgical lymphatic drainage is a technique that is used to help increase the recovery time and reduce swelling from surgical procedures. Lymph fluid is very rich in protein which produces an environment that has a high affinity for bacterial growth. This can lead to skin ulcerations, which are commonly found in patients with venous insufficiency and lymphedema. Utilizing a pH balance moisturizer is recommended.
